AI has made it easier than ever to create content. But easier doesn't necessarily mean better.

One of the biggest mistakes we see people making with AI is using it to replace their own thinking, experience, and expertise. The result is content that might be grammatically correct and well-structured, but sounds like everyone else.

The real opportunity with AI isn't to create more generic content. It's to help you communicate your ideas more effectively, without losing what makes your perspective valuable.

Here are five ways to use AI to create better content while keeping it authentically yours.

## 1\. Train AI on your voice

Before asking AI to write for you, help it understand how you communicate. Give it examples of your writing, including blog posts, social media content, video scripts, or even transcripts of you speaking.

Ask it to analyze your tone, vocabulary, sentence structure, and overall communication style. The more it understands how you naturally communicate, the better it can help you create content that actually sounds like you.

And don't be afraid to correct it when something doesn't sound right. That feedback is just as valuable as the original examples.

## 2\. Repurpose content you've already created

You probably have more valuable content than you realize.

Think about the webinars you've delivered, videos you've recorded, presentations you've given, or conversations you've had with customers. Those are all opportunities to create new content.

Use AI to turn that existing material into blog posts, newsletters, social media posts, or short-form video scripts.

The advantage is that you're starting with your actual knowledge and expertise, rather than asking AI to come up with something from scratch.

## 3\. Share your unique point of view

This might be the most important tip on the list.

Anyone can ask AI to "write a blog post about leadership" or "create five LinkedIn posts about marketing." And that's exactly why so much AI-generated content sounds the same.

Instead, start with what you believe. What have you learned from your experience? What do you disagree with? What advice do you give customers that might be different from conventional wisdom?

Give AI those ideas and ask it to help you communicate them.

Your unique perspective is what makes your content worth reading. AI should help you express it, not replace it.

## 4\. Write the first draft yourself

Sometimes the best way to use AI is to do the thinking and writing yourself first.

Get your ideas down on paper. Don't worry about perfect grammar, sentence structure, or even whether everything flows together.

Once you've written your draft, use AI as an editor. Ask it to improve the flow, tighten up your language, fix grammatical errors, and make your message more effective.

This is one of our favorite ways to use AI. We can focus on the ideas and what we want to say, while AI helps us make the finished product better.

## 5\. Don't automate personal communication

There's a big difference between using AI to help you communicate and using AI to communicate on your behalf.

We firmly believe that personal interactions should remain personal. That includes comments on social media, direct messages, and conversations with customers and prospects.

Using AI to automatically generate and post comments or send messages might save time, but it also risks damaging the trust you're trying to build.

People want to engage with people, not bots pretending to be people.

Use AI to help you prepare, organize your thoughts, or improve your writing. But when it comes to building relationships, show up yourself.

## The bottom line

AI is an incredible tool for content creation, but it shouldn't be a substitute for your expertise, experience, or perspective.

The goal isn't simply to create more content. It's to create content that helps people understand what you know, how you think, and why they should trust you.
